When I picture great teaching I see the eyes of students light up. That moment when a child understands something and the connection is made in their head; those are the moments I teach for. We have all had students that time after time has trouble expressing themselves to their peers, or have struggles in certain subjects, or have stress coming from a place outside of school. When I teach my students to paint, I teach them how this can be an outlet for their individuality, for their problems, their critical thinking, and their language barriers. Great teaching comes in many forms. Mine just happens to be ART!
