Most students think of school and think of another boring day in class, but what we learned is that this statement is all wrong. When I picture great teaching I think of all of the fun and hands-on science we have had all year.
One of the many experiments we did this year was about heat and kinetic energy. In most every classroom you will see students unengaged and bored while learning. In this class we are focused and inspired by the fun with learning that we have. The science experiment that you see is one of the many fun things that we have done this year that don’t involve a paper or a pencil. Later on we tried this experiment ourselves and it was even more fun and entertaining. We are not just any ordinary class. We are inspired, entertained, and amazed.
When I picture great teaching I don’t think of kids sitting at their desks like I might have last year. Now I picture great teaching when I see kids getting involved or doing things that are hands-on.
In this picture you see three students that are focused on what they are learning and paying close attention to every move their teacher makes. We learned that when you heat a glass of water even over a small candle and drop a few drops of food coloring into that glass the dye would go around in circles in the water and eventually all of the water turned red from the food coloring. This happens because of the heat creating convection currents. This experiment taught us to have fun even when you are learning about science or history or math. You don’t just have to use a text book to lean there are many other ways to learn while still having fun.
