Last year, I began working at my old high school in a program called “Creative Pathways” — aimed at helping kids who have had trouble academically, and providing an alternate curriculum that focuses more on life skills and what it takes to become an upstanding citizen.
The very first thing on my job description is to “be a role model for the students,” a task which I not only take very seriously, but also one that has forced me to become a better person for their sake as much as my own. Each and every day I marvel at their enthusiasm, and I really think I get as much from them (if not more) than they do for me.
Because I’m always taking pictures with my phone and/or camera on field trips, my love for photography has permeated through to the classroom, with many of my students saying that because of me they’ve asked their parents for new cameras (and new iPhones
