This pictures was taken during my percussion/music after school residency at PS112, through Urban Arts Partnership( www.urbanarts.org).
The reason why I love this photograph so much, is because it clearly shows the young students being comfortable in the roles of leaders and followers. That is something that I stress very much in my lessons, so in each lesson we practice being both! In this particular occasion, one student was demonstrating to the class how to play the note G in the recorder flutes by showing the theory written on the board, while another student showed the class the correct fingering and how it looks like in an actual flute. In our music club, we always try to find multiple ways of showing the same thing as we know that everyone learns in a different way, so the students also know about their multiple intelligences! FInally, the third student can be seen from the back paying attention to both teachers and trying out the new skills. This photograph embodies one of the most powerful teaching resources (in my opinion!) kids teaching kids!
