How do you prepare the current generation of youth to become the next generation of leaders? With project based learning opportunities to inspire my teaching.

Meet Emily, a 6th grade student, who is presenting an update to our Mayor and City Council on the progress of an instructional film my students are making for our city at our city’s request.

The film and Emily’s presentation is a result of a project that started when a group of students wanted to learn how to combat the improper disposal of batteries. What resulted was a request by our city for my students to create a film instructing the residents of our community how to properly dispose of all their household hazardous waste!

This classroom project has evolved into something much bigger: a social impact project that will educated more than 150,000 citizens of our city how they can care for our environment!
