This picture is a multi grade project. The 4th graders have to learn about flowers but they don’t take the end-of-course state exam until 5th grade. So I had my 5th graders break up into groups and write a sidewalk book on the playground. Then, each group presented their square to each of the 4th grade classes. All but 3 special needs/language learning students passed that portion of the exam.

I am inspired when I see my students excited about their learning. They say that the best way to learn something is to teach it. This was proven true when I got my 5th graders out of the classroom that had no windows to do a project that would not only benefit them, but also created a memorable experience for them and the 4th graders. It built community, camraderie and teamwork.
